Fancy something different while you are in Bangkok? Try Sab2x Wanton Mee. This restaurant wasn't on our original itinerary but a couple of our friends recommend highly of this restaurant so we decided to give it a go. We arrived rather early around 9 am in the morning despite the rainy weather but as suspected there was a bit of queue but it wasn't long until we were seated. There are a lot of banners/signs/posters outside and inside the restaurants mentioning they have no branch in Singapore, apparently there is a similar shop in Singapore called ‘Soi 19 Wanton Mee’ and people often associate that shop with Sab2x Wanton Mee and apparently they don't like it that way hence the excessive warning banners (I know...first world problem).

Having read a lot of reviews, I believe they used to offer a small and a big bowl in the past and each was priced differently but now you can only order one size. The price has also increased significantly over the past years (popularity is one of the main reasons) and many regular customers are not happy about it. They used to be priced at around 40-60THB a bowl but now you are paying 100THB (~ AUD $4) a bowl and by Bangkok standard, this is considered an expensive bowl of noodle.
As soon as we were seated, they were ready to take your order. The menu is well written in Thai and there is no English menu. The guy asked lazily in Mandarin but we just reply in English. The service wasn't anywhere close to Bangkok standard, quite rude and lousy – nothing to write home about. We ordered two bowls of wanton mee, the standard one with pork slices, pork wontons, and choy sum and the one with meat crabs.
The portion was ok in my opinion although a lot of people complained it was rather small. The noodle itself was pretty good; the texture was rather hard which close to my liking. The pork lard oil was rich and strong, a bit too much for my taste but I didn’t mind it. The pork slices were a little bit on the dry side and pretty ordinary, the wontons, however, were tasty but you only get two wontons per bowl. The crab version was similar but comes with crab meats rather than pork slices and pork wontons. It was plain and pretty ordinary. There are condiments on every table like soy sauce, chili powder, etc which you can add yourselves if you are not happy with the flavour. However, being a noodle fanboy I reckon both were really tasty so I didn't really need to add anything except the chili.
We also ordered `Kway Chap` (Braised Pork Trotters) on the side, it is a traditional Teochew Chinese dish. There are many variations of this dish, in some areas they use duck instead of pork, fried tofu is often included, and it can come in a bowl of soup. But this version here was the pork version with generous sauce, an egg and preserved pickled cabbages was included but it didn’t come with the tofu. The pork meats and the pork intestines are braised in a big pot for several hours to tenderize the meat and they were on display the minutes you arrive at this restaurant. The meats itself (which includes some pork belly) were tender kinda melt in your mouth; the intestines were bouncy, really tasty but a bit salty. My only complaint was the dominant white pepper flavour which made the whole plate a bit on the spicy side. The portion was generous and you can order one with the rice which is also a favourite menu to order here.
Overall, I quite like this restaurant. Yes, it is on the expensive side – we paid around 460THB (~ AUD $18.40) for two bowls of noodles, a plate of Kway Chap, and a bottle of chrysanthemum tea. Will I go back here? Maybe! This place is very popular amongst tourists especially from Singapore and Hong Kong and the queue can be crazy sometimes so be prepared to wait a bit.
